SC to hear plea of Gyanvapi mosque committee against survey today The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the plea of the management of Gyanvapi mosque against the survey of the Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh today. The apex court will hear the matter amidst an important development with a Varanasi court on Monday directed the district administration there to seal the spot of the survey inside the complex where allegedly ‘Shivling’ has been found by the surveying team. 2. American envoys on Tibetan issues to travel to India and Nepal Biden Administration’s top envoy on human rights and Tibetan issue is travelling to India and Nepal this week to deepen cooperation on human rights with these two South Asian nations, an official statement said Monday. “Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights and U.S. Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues Uzra Zeya will travel May 17–22 to India and Nepal to deepen cooperation on human rights and democratic governance goals, and to advance humanitarian priorities,” the State Department said. 4. Counting for the first phase of Jharkhand panchayat polls to start today The counting of votes for the first phase of the panchayat elections in Jharkhand will start today amid tight security, an official said. The first of the four-phase panchayat polls took place on May 14. Over 68% of the 52 lakh voters exercised their franchise. A total of 1,127 panchayats covering 72 blocks in 21 districts of the State went to the polls in the first phase. Panchayat elections in the State are not held on party lines. 5. Sisodia to interact with students, parents during his Shimla visit today Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will visit Shimla today where he will interact with students and parents on the deteriorating quality of education in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh, the AAP said. Giving information about Mr. Sisodia’s visit, AAP’s State spokesperson I.D.
