Karnataka Hijab row | HC says some mischievous people keeping the issue burning With the row over dresscode escalating in Karnataka and turning into a law and order issue, the Karnataka Government on Tuesday ordered closure of high schools (Class IX and X) and colleges in the State for three days. The High Court, meanwhile, commenced hearing a batch of petitions questioning the ban on wearing hijab (head scarf) in colleges. After hearing the petitions filed by some students studying in a Government Pre-University College for Girls in the coastal town of Udupi, the court posted the matter for Wednesday. 2. 49 convicted, 28 acquitted in 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case After a protracted trial that lasted almost 13 years, a special court on Tuesday delivered its verdict, holding 49 guilty in the 2008 serial blasts case in which Ahmedabad was rocked by a series of bomb blasts that left 56 dead and 200 injured. The court acquitted 28 other accused. As many as 77 faced trial in the case. The hearing on the quantum of punishment for the convicts will start from Wednesday, the court said. 3. Youth trapped on mountain face in Kerala for nearly 2 days without food, water Efforts continued to rescue a youngster trapped in a cave on a steep hill at Malampuzha. The government sought the help of the defence forces after attempts by the police, Fire and Rescue Services, and volunteers failed. Separate teams of the National Disaster Response Force were making desperate attempts to reach the trapped youngster. Coast Guard said that another rescue mission would be attempted on Wednesday morning. 4.
