In an apparent swipe at previous Congress dispensations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that attempts were made after independence to erase contributions of many great people besides Indiaâs culture and values, and asserted that the country is now correcting mistakes of the past. Addressing a gathering after unveiling a hologram statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the India Gate on the 125th birth anniversary of the iconic freedom fighter, Mr. Modi also said no power in the world can prevent the country from achieving its goal of building a ânew Indiaâ before the hundredth year of independence in 2047. âIndiaâs freedom struggle involved the sacrifices of lakhs of people, but attempts were made to limit their history. But today, decades after independence, the country is correcting those mistakes,â he said. The hologram statue will be powered by a 30,000 lumens 4K projector. A high gain, 90% transparent holographic screen has been erected in such a way that it is not visible to visitors. The Prime Minister said the hologram statue will soon be replaced by a big granite statue, while adding that it will remind democratic institutions, current and coming generations of their duties and inspire them. The Prime Minister also conferred the âSubhas Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskarâ for 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 at the ceremony. A total of seven awards were presented during the ceremony. Omicron in community transmission in India, has become dominant in multiple metros: INSACOG Omicron is now in community transmission in India and has become dominant in multiple metros, where new cases have been rising exponentially, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) said in its latest bulletin on Sunday. INSACOG, jointly initiated by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) among others is a consortium of 38 laboratories to monitor the genomic variations in the SARS-CoV-2. The two-page bulletin also observed that while most Omicron cases so far had been asymptomatic or mild, hospitalisations and ICU cases had been increasing in the current wave. India is currently in the middle of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and has been recording a sharp spike in daily cases. The consortium had earlier said that COVID-19 appropriate behaviour and vaccination were main shields against all form mutations of SARS-CoV-2 virus. New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern cancels her wedding amid new Omicron restrictions New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has cancelled her wedding as the nation imposes new restrictions to slow the community spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, she told reporters on Sunday. New Zealand will impose mask rules and limit gathering from midnight on Sunday after a cluster of nine COVID-19 Omicron cases showed community spread from the North to South islands after a wedding. New Zealand will move to a red setting under its COVID-19 protection framework, with more mask wearing. Indoor hospitality settings such as bars and restaurants and events like weddings will be capped at 100 people. The limit is lowered to 25 people if venues are not using vaccine passes, Ms. Arden said. "My wedding will not be going ahead," she told reporters, adding she was sorry for anyone caught up in a similar scenario. The country has kept its borders shut to foreigners since March 2020. The government pushed back plans for a phased reopening from mid-January to the end of February out of concern about a potential Omicron outbreak in neighbouring Australia.
