1. SC stays polls for OBC seats in Maharashtra The Supreme Court Monday stayed till further orders the local body election in Maharashtra on 27 % seats reserved for the Other Backward Classes (OBC). The apex court made clear that election process for the other seats would continue. 2. Cong forms 4-member delegation to visit Nagaland in wake of civilian killings The Congress on Monday constituted a four-member delegation to visit Nagaland and submit a report within a week on civilian killings in Mon district. "Congress president [Sonia Gandhi] has constituted a delegation to visit Nagaland and report on the matters related to the recent killing of innocent citizens and sequential violence in Mon district in Nagaland," an official communication from the party said. The delegation comprises senior party leaders Jitendra Singh, Ajoy Kumar, Gaurav Gogoi and Anto Antony, it said. 3. Covid: NTAGI discusses administering 'additional' vaccine dose, inoculation of kids The issues of administering 'additional' dose of Covid vaccine to immuno-compromised individuals and inoculation of children were deliberated upon in a meeting of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) on Monday, official sources said. However, no consensus was learnt to have been reached by the members and no final recommendation has been made on these issue as of now, the source said. 4. PM to inaugurate 3 mega projects in UP CM’s home turf Gorakhpur Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Tuesday inaugurate three megaprojects, including an AIIMS and a major fertiliser plant, in Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home turf Gorakhpur. The three ambitious projects, set to give further impetus to the growth of underdeveloped eastern Uttar Pradesh, also include ICMR's regional unit Regional Medical Research Centre here. 5. Punjab polls: Amarinder, Shekhawat likely to meet on Tuesday Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat are likely to meet on Tuesday over lunch and expected to hold discussions on seat sharing for the upcoming Punjab Assembly polls, said sources. Shekhawat is the BJP's in-charge for the Punjab Assembly polls. The meeting is likely to take place at Amarinder Singh’s farmhouse at Siswan in Mohali, said the sources. 6. Andhra Pradesh High Court gets 2 new judges; 120 HC judges appointed so far this year A judicial officer and an advocate were appointed as judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday, taking the total number of judges appointed to various high courts this year to 120. In 2016, a total of 126 high court judges were appointed, which is a record. The Department of Justice in the Law Ministry announced the two fresh appointments through a tweet. 7. Scotland Yard to investigate alleged drug use in UK Parliament Scotland Yard is to investigate reports of drugs being used in the House of Parliament as the UK government on Monday set out a 10-year strategy for England and Wales to tackle criminal gangs. Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle said that he was referring matters to the Metropolitan Police after The Sunday Times reported finding traces of cocaine in lavatory areas. 8. Guj: Court convicts man for rape and murder of minor girl within month of his arrest The POCSO court here in Gujarat on Monday convicted a 35-year-old migrant worker for raping and murdering a two-and-a-half-year-old girl around 28 days after his arrest and is set to pronounce the verdict on Tuesday, the prosecution said. The court convicted the accused, Guddu Yadav, under various charges of kidnapping, rape and murder under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 9. SC pulls up Railways for not protecting its property & acting against encroachers The Supreme Court Monday pulled up the Railways for not acting against encroachers on its land in Gujarat, where a railway line is scheduled to come up, and said they are not protecting their property. Observing that it is the “statutory obligation” of the Railways to initiate action against the encroachers, the apex court said the “public project” has to go on and the authority should have taken action on this. 10. SC disposes of plea against appointment of Prashant Kishor as Punjab CM's principal advisor The Supreme Court Monday said a plea filed against the decision of the Punjab government to appoint poll strategist Prashant Kishor as an advisor to former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in the rank of a Cabinet Minister "does not survive for consideration" as the poll expert has resigned from the post. “The expert has himself resigned on August 4, 2021, as an advisor to the Chief Minister. This does not survive for consideration," said a bench comprising Justices S. K. Kaul and M. M. Sundresh in its order while disposing of the appeal filed against the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. 11. Economy shows strong signs of recovery, upswing in 19 of 22 eco indicators Indian economy is showing strong signs of recovery from the devastation caused by the pandemic, with an upswing being reported in 19 out of the 22 economic indicators as compared to the pre-Covid levels. High-frequency indicators (HFIs) are being monitored to track the progress of economic recovery in India since the first COVID-19 case was reported in the country in January 2020. 12. Sikkim Assembly adjourned after making obituary references The Sikkim Assembly was adjourned for the day on Monday after obituary references were made to three former legislators who died recently.
