1. BJP, RSS to hold two-day coordination meet A two-day coordination meeting of the BJP and the RSS will be held in Delhi from Tuesday to deliberate on policy-related issues, sources said on Monday. Top leaders of the BJP, including its secretary-general (organisation) B. L. Santhosh, other officer-bearers and Union Ministers are expected to attend the meeting, they said. 2. Kerala Floods | Select dams to gradually reopen; alert sounded against leptospirosis outbreak Amid havoc caused by torrential rains over the past week, the Kerala Government has constituted an expert committee to regulate the release of water from 81 dams across swollen rivers. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the committee will gauge the quantum of water in dams and formulate long-term management plans. Two shutters of the Pampa dam will be opened after 5 a.m on Tuesday. Two shutters of the Edamalayar dam will also be raised by 80 cm at 6 a.m. on Tuesday to release 100 cumecs. The authorities have also decided to open two shutters of the Cheruthoni dam at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The Health Department has issued an alert against leptospirosis outbreaks as rain and related floods are likely to continue in the State in the days to come. 3. Fresh low-pressure area formed; Bengal likely to receive torrential rain The Met department on Monday forecast torrential rain owing to the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha. South Bengal is already experiencing heavy downpour since Sunday night as a result of a similar weather system formed over north Telangana. 4. Incessant rains lash Uttarakhand; Chardham yatra halted temporarily With incessant rains lashing Uttarakhand for the second consecutive day on Monday as the authorities advised Chardham pilgrims to not proceed to the Himalayan temples till the weather improves. Chardham pilgrims, who had arrived in Haridwar and Rishikesh by Sunday, have been asked not to proceed further till the weather improves while operation of vehicles for the Himalayan temples has been suspended temporarily. 5. Eid-e-Milad: Only 2 processions with 5 trucks each allowed in Mumbai Only two processions with five trucks each have been permitted in Mumbai on Eid-e-Milad on Tuesday, with each vehicle allowed to carry five people, an official said. While one procession will be in the island city, the other will be taken out in the suburbs, he added. 6. Babul Supriyo to formally resign as MP Former BJP leader Babul Supriyo will formally resign as MP on Tuesday, he said in a tweet, weeks after he quit the party to join the TMC. In a tweet, the former union minister on Monday thanked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for granting him appointment to resign as Lok Sabha MP. 7. Alert in Assam over threats from ISI, al-Qaeda The Assam Police have sounded an alert over possible terror strikes by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and terror outfit al-Qaeda over alleged persecution of Muslims in the State. A circular issued by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) said the alert has been issued following reports received from the Special Branch of the State police. The circular said the ISI is planning to target "individuals including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) cadres and army areas in Assam and other places in India". 8. Japan leader calls for greater military capability, spending Prime Minister Fumio Kishida called for increase in Japan's military capability and spending in response to what he described as growing threats from China and North Korea in a public debate with eight other political party leaders ahead of upcoming national elections. The party leaders also discussed ways to mend the pandemic-hit economy and respond to any future waves of the coronavirus — issues expected to feature prominently in the October 31 elections. 9. ICC T20 World Cup | Bangladesh find themselves in must win situation against Oman Handed a rude shock in their T20 World Cup opener, Bangladesh will have to sort some self-confessed batting problems and play as per their reputation in a must-win game against upbeat hosts Oman on Tuesday. Bangladesh came into the tournament as the sixth-ranked team which had beaten New Zealand and Australia at home. 10. ICC T20 World Cup | Scotland look to keep winning momentum against Papua New Guinea Buoyed by their stunning victory over Bangladesh, Scotland will be keen to keep the winning momentum going when they take on Papua New Guinea in the T20 World Cup on Tuesday. Chris Greaves' magnificent all-round display, that saw him hit a 45 off 28 deliveries before snaring two crucial wickets, helped Scotland notch a six-run victory over Bangladesh in their opening clash, while debutants Papua New Guinea were handed a 10-wicket thrashing by co-hosts Oman in the tournament opener. 11. ICC T20 World Cup| Dew factor will decide whether we play seamer or spinner: Ravi Shastri India head coach Ravi Shastri on Monday said the dew factor will decide whether the team will go with an extra seamer or spinner during its upcoming ICC T20 World Cup campaign starting on October 24 against Pakistan. Shastri, who is on his last assignment with the Indian team, also made it clear that the primary objective of the two warm-up games against England (this evening) and Australia on October 20 is to understand how the players are placed in terms of form and rhythm. 12. Sub junior, junior national aquatic championships begin, senior meet from October 26 in Bengaluru The junior and sub junior national aquatic championships will begin on Tuesday while the senior national meet is scheduled from next week, the Swimming Federation of India announced on Monday.
