2. PM Modi addresses nation on 74th Independence Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the national flag and [delivered his seventh consecutive Independence Day speech]( from the iconic Red Fort. âToday, as we breathe the air in a free country, we acknowledge the sacrifice of lakhs of sons and daughters of Mother India who gave their all for our freedom. 3. LJP may withdraw support to Nitish Kumar govt in Bihar: party sources
The [Lok Janshakti Party may withdraw its support to the Nitish Kumar-led government]( in Bihar, its sources said on Friday after the party accused senior JD(U) leader Lalan Singh of âinsultingâ Prime Minister Narendra Modi. LJP chief Chirag Paswan has called a meeting of party leaders at partyâs Patna office on Saturday over the issue, they said.

Heavy rains in Jaipur claimed the three lives; widespread rains are expected to continue in the next five days, with heavy showers in several parts of Gujarat on Friday and Saturday; Met office has issued âorange warningâ for Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, Angul and Deogarh where heavy to very heavy rainfall may lash some places with isolated extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall in these districts till Saturday.
5. Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry to launch campaign to eliminate drug addiction in 272 vulnerable districts
State governments and the 272 district collectors are going to launch [the campaign]( on August 15 and it will run for seven months till March 31, 2021.
6. Corona scare hits Kerala govt; Pinarayi Vijayan, 3 Ministers test negative, several others in quarantine

[Since being in quarantine](, the Kerala Chief Minister will miss the Independence Day function on Saturday and Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran will hoist the flag at the main function in the State capital, CMO sources said.
7. Lockdown lifted in Thiruvananthapuram city limits
The [COVID-19-induced lockdown in Thiruvananthapuram]( corporation limits will be lifted from midnight following which malls, hypermarkets and salons will open on Saturday morning.
