1. India surpasses Russia to become third-worst hit country with COVID-19
India on July 5 recorded the third highest[coronavirus](caseload in the world, overtaking Russia. India now has over 6,97,828 positive cases, while Russia's has 6,81,251 cases, as per the Russian health ministry website. Nearly 25,000 new cases were reported on Sunday, as many States in India reported a highest single-day spike.
2. ASI monuments, museums to re-open
All ASI protected monuments and museums will reopen from today with a [cap on the number of visitors](. Earlier in June, the culture ministry of Culture had reopened 820 of the 3,000 protected monuments.
3. Oli-Prachanda power-sharing talks fail; both agree to meet again today

The two leaders failed to reach any agreement as both stuck to their respective stands, said a source close to [Nepal Prime Minister Oli](. 4. Supreme Court to pronounce verdict on PIL alleging preferential listing of cases

The Supreme Court would pronounce its verdict on Monday on a plea by a lawyer against the alleged preference given to influential lawyers and petitioners by registry officials in the listing of cases for hearing.
5. Supreme Court comes out with fresh SOP for hearing through video-conferencing, listing of cases
It said fresh matters lying in the pool, which could not be listed earlier, may be listed before the virtual court in the week commencing Monday (July 6).
6. Puducherry bans insertion of handbills, pamphlets in newspapers
The Puducherry government has banned insertion of pamphlets, advertisement materials or handbills in newspapers delivered at door steps of customers in the Union Territory as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. The ban comes into force on Monday, a release from District Collector T. Arun said.
7. Two-week lockdown in Assamâs Dima Hasao district from today
Dima Hasao is the second district in the State after Kamrup Metropolitan, which primarily comprises Guwahati city, to impose a total lockdown.
8. Heavy rain likely in Odisha in next few days, fishermen asked not to venture into sea
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some places in Nuapada, Balangir and Kalahandi districts on Monday.
9. Get âprasadâ by post from Kashi Vishwanath temple during the holy month of Sawan

While devotees may not be able to visit the famed Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi, they can now get home delivery of âprasadâ during the Sawan period of Hindu calendar beginning on Monday, thanks to the department of posts.
10. Schools to reopen in Sri Lanka from Monday
A Ministry of Education official said students from Grades 5, 11 and 13 will resume schooling on Monday. There will be extended hours for Grade 13 students with school closing time extended until 3.30 p.m. from usual 1.30 p.m. In the next phase, students of Grades 12 and 10 will return on July 20. The students of Grades 3,4,6,7,8 and 9 would return on July 27. The final phase would be on August 10 when Grades 1 and 2 would return, the official said.
