The Gear Page Weekly Update - Trending Threads: All Of Music Theory Fits In A Single Sheet Of Paper

The Gear Page Weekly Update - Trending Threads: All Of Music Theory Fits In A Single Sheet Of Paper Or maybe, all the music theory that you need at a certain point time. Back when I was 16 or 17 I used to play bass in a hard rock band my friends and I had put together. That was in the days before the internet, when information was scarce and guitar books expensive. I was beginning to learn some chords on guitar, and of course didn't like the whole making the barre for the F chord. So I go to the guitar player (the only one in the band that was taking music lessons) and ask him, "dude, this whole barre chord thing is lame, why can't I just make an E chord shape and move it up and down the fretboard?" Which I guess goes to show there are no stupid questions, just stupid people asking questions. Anyway, the guitar player put on his best wise sage expression and said, "let me get back to you on that." And he did! For our next rehearsal, he had a sheet of paper where he had written down the secret of the F chord. That piece of paper has been lost to time, but if I remember correctly it went like this: a drawing of the C scale on the piano keyboard. what is a second and a third interval (maybe?) tones and semitones and the key piece of information that blew my mind: chords are built piling up two thirds the F chord is F, A, C the C scale on the first position of the guitar same, with the notes that you need to make the F chord, highlighted corollary: if you just make an E chord shape and slide it up and down the fretboard, you are not making an F chord but an abomination against all rules of decency and he threw in a diagram of the A blues scale as a bonus! Later on I began taking guitar lessons myself, and learn some other stuff (the sharps and flats, chord extensions and all that jazz). But that single piece of paper was probably the best music lesson I ever got. So, where am I going with this? Basically two things I would like to tell people that don't want to learn theory: The theory that you need to know right now to take you to the next level may fit in a piece of paper You may think that not learning "the rules" can make you more creative, but I would bet that whatever you are playing, there's a rule for that TRENDING THREADS --------------------------------------------------------------- [All Of Music Theory Fits In A Single Sheet Of Paper]( Or maybe, all the music theory that you need at a certain point time.
