YMonitor, an initiative of The Future Project, holds two grassroots engagements in Surulere and Alimosho Local Government. YMonitor holds its Grassroots Engagement Series in two (2) Local governments As part of its aim of stimulating active citizenship especially amongst the youth, YMonitor, an initiative of The Future Project which highlights crucial accountability and governance issues held two grassroots engagements in Surulere and Alimosho local government. The Surulere engagement which held last week Tuesday, 13th of March, had elected officials of the Local government in attendance. All Councillors representing the 9 wards in the LGA were in attendance. The Local Government Chairman, Honourable Tajudeen Ajide showed up briefly alongside his Vice Chairman, Hon Sulaimon Bamidele Yusuf. Also in attendance was the Secretary of the Local Government, Prince Honourable Dosunmu among others. The participants cut across members of various associations such as Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Surulere Youth Council, Women Association, Association of persons with Disability, Chairmen of Community Development Association (CDAs), as well as private citizens. The program gave participants the opportunity to ask their elected officials questions relating to their stewardship in office became a platform to get the LGA committed on the rehabilitation of bad roads within Surulere. The Local government officials and councillors agreed to rehabilitate Somade crescent which Karimu, Banire, Ibidun and Mabo roads all of which are currently in bad shape. [Read More]( On the 15th of March, YMonitor also staged another engagement in Alimosho LGA. The meeting had youth leaders representing different wards in Alimosho Local Government. Ensuing conversations, had participants questioned the quality of youth empowerment program carried out by the LGA Chairman to commemorate his 100 days in office, with claims that most empowerment interventions were not directed at those that are in dire need of it. Participants also raised questions about the poor state of infrastructure especially roads in the LGA, and they sought the help of YMonitor on some key roads in the LGA that need immediate attention before the rains come. YMonitor promised to raise the issues discussed at the engagement with the LGA Chairman especially the roads that need immediate attention before the rains come.
