When it seemed like Feinstein was going to retire, Schiff stood up a fundraising operation and was clearly going to run for the seat in what would be a crowded and fractious primary – but then she decided to return, and he was rebuffed. Now, Schiff wants to use the impeachment process to gain enough popularity that he is Gov. Gavin Newsom’s selection for the plum job, with unanimous backing from the Democratic base as the hero who led the charge against Trump.
