But if failure is a choice, it seems clear that this choice was motivated by being caught between a rock and a hard place – what the Democratic partisan traditionalists at the Times wanted to send as a message, and what they know their readers want to see from the Times after several years of increasing dissatisfaction with their handful of intransigent centrists.
