We brought England’s Conor Coady and Stonewall FC’s Jay Lemonius together to talk about their memories of playing at Wembley Stadium and to celebrate LGBT+ inclusion in football. [WATCH HERE]( [Rainbow laces]( Be an ally We all want to be the best versions of ourselves and in turn support others to do the same, so if you are wondering what more you can do to be an LGBT ally, below are some top tips to help you do so. All of these tips can be implemented from home and online, so that whether you’re able to play or attend matches right now or not, we can still play our part to make football everyone’s game! Challenge online abuse [Kick It Out research]( found there have been shocking increases in the levels of race hate and abuse based on sexual orientation around football matches and across social media. You and your peers can start to tackle this abuse by speaking up when you see anti-LGBT bullying or language. Whilst it’s not always easy to use your voice, it’s a crucial part of being an ally and can make a big difference for LGBT people in our game. Be a visible ally! [Buy your laces now!]( Wearing Rainbow Laces can go a long way to demonstrating a proud commitment to LGBT inclusion and is one of many ways of how you can be a visible ally throughout the year. Celebrate LGBT achievements in sport There’s still more to do to end homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in sport but it’s important to recognise and uplift LGBT people throughout the year and not just in the context of discrimination. It can be as simple as sharing positive news stories or interviews with LGBT people in sports on your social media or writing up a case study with LGBT people in your local footballing community. Support your LGBT peers We know football can be great for your mental health and wellbeing, and with COVID-19 forcing the game to be put on pause at times, this will have affected many of us. This is especially tough for LGBT people who may already experience mental health issues. You can find a [range of support tailored specifically to LGBT people]( which you can share with friends, family or teammates and be part of creating a more open environment for everyone to talk about mental health and wellbeing.
