Hello Friend, A big part of me thinks that prop trading is the single best thing that ever happened

Hello Friend, A big part of me thinks that prop trading is the single best thing that ever happened to the retail trader. An even bigger part of me knows the fact that you're trading someone else's money doesn't mean your road to trading success is "easier". Actually, your road to success is just different. Therefore, your trading plan has to be different. Why different? To defend yourself against the red line...the unforgiving line in the sand where you'll bust out your evaluation account and have to reset, OR the red line where you bust out of your FUNDED account and have to start all over again. There are several unnegotiable rules, that if followed, will grease your way to prop trading success... not the least of which is...always having a protective stop in place. There are a handful of traders I've known over my career who do trade successfully using 'mental' stops. A handful. That's likely not you. However, even those traders who don't normally use stops, WOULD use them if they prop traded. Why? Because all you need to wipe out your funded or evaluation account is a crazy moment...a moment when a crazy report or an international event happens where the market SPIKES and whips around. You see, because of the tight risk parameters that accompany prop trading, a simple spike can take you out in a flash and with current high volatility, I can't think of a recent week where there WASN'T a spike. If it were you own retail account and you had more flexible parameters, you could ride through a spike, perhaps. But with prop trading, that same spike will take you out because your measured through open trade equity. I think I've made my point. You can't expose yourself to a spike, because the risk is just too great. Always have a stop in. You can make it deep if you're a cowboy (definitely NOT advised),but even a cowboy should place a stop in a way that you have at least a couple of "shots" left to recover if you're hit. As a prop trader, you must stay as far away from the red line as you can. A responsible trading plan, built for prop trading success, will make this a priority. If you don't have a responsible trading plan, built for prop trading success, your search will end with my Simple Trading Plan, Loaded Gun.
