Researchers suspect dissolved minerals are keeping the lake in a liquid state despite the low temperatures. The Details The lake was discovered using an advanced radar system located onboard the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft, which has been sitting in orbit above Mars since 2004. The hi-tech system is able to obtain information about Mars by sending electromagnetic radar waves towards the center of the planet. When those waves detect a change in state (such as ice to rock), they reflect back to the satellite. Professor Roberto Orosei and his team of researchers located the lake after analyzing data obtained between May 2012 and December 2015. The reason the discovery is so exciting is that scientists and astronomers have long theorized that the discovery of water will lead to the discovery of extraterrestrial life. The discovery also increases the chances that mankind will one day colonize Mars. "We agreed today, first of all, to work together toward zero tariffs...non-tariff barriers, and zero subsidies on non-auto industrial goods," said Trump. The EU also agreed to support Trump's efforts to reform the World Trade Organization. The agreement is a win-win scenario that puts the US and the EU in a stronger position to negotiate with China, reduces the EU's dependence on Russian energy, and benefits consumers on both sides of the pond by lowering prices on a variety of industrial and non-industrial goods. The deal also includes a promise to increase sales of soybeans to the EU - which will help mitigate the effects of Chinese taxes on US farmers. The Background The trade dispute between the US and EU began in March when Trump announced plans to impose harsh tariffs on steel and aluminum. The EU reacted by taxing $3.25 billion worth of American staples like motorcycles and whiskey. Trump then threatened to impose a 25% tariff on European-made cars. This would have added more than $11,000 to the sticker price of a single vehicle. Juncker had initially sought to hit the US with increased tariffs, but German automakers begged him to consider Trump's zero-tariff idea. At the end of the meeting on Wednesday, both sides agreed not to impose any new tariffs while negotiations were taking place. They also said they would try to "resolve" the steel and aluminum tariffs as well as the duties the EU imposed on the US in response. Further details will be hashed out and announced after the midterm elections in November. [share]( [tweet]( Good to the last drop Did you know...
