Scott Fitzgerald   [Learn more about RevenueStripe...]( Justice Is Served The Headline President Trump pardons Dinesh D'Souza The Grind Last week, President Trump pardoned filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza for the campaign finance law violation he was charged with in 2014. D'Souza, who pleaded guilty to making $20,000 in illegal campaign contributions to NY Republican Senate candidate Wendy Long, was punished with a $30,000 fine and forced to spend 8 months living in a halfway house in California with hardened criminals. After that, he was sentenced to five years of probation and community service. In a personal phone call to D'Souza, Trump told the filmmaker he "should have gotten a fine, but these people went after you hammer and tong. It's outrageous." The Background D'Souza is a conservative commentator and controversialist whose claims about everyone from Hitler to Rosa Parks have created scores of enemies on the Left. Republicans believe his punishment was purely vindictive. "Dinesh was the subject of a political prosecution, brazenly targeted by the Obama Administration bc of his political views," tweeted Senator Ted Cruz (R), who reportedly urged Trump to pardon D'Souza. "And he's a powerful voice for freedom, systematically dismantling the lies of the Left - which is why they hate him. This is Justice." D'Souza believes he was targeted by the Obama Administration for a 2012 documentary which portrays Obama as an anti-colonialist trying to weaken America's global position. "What happened here is that Obama and his team...these guys decided to make an example of me, and I think the reason for this was Obama's anger over my movie that I made about him," said D'Souza. "This a vindictive political hit that was aimed at putting me out of business." Trump's decision to pardon D'Souza will end his probation, free him from community service commitments, enable him to travel outside the US, and restore his right to vote. [share]( [tweet]( You Might Like        [Learn more about RevenueStripe...]( On Again Off Again The Headline Trump-Kim summit will definitely take place June 12th (probably) The Grind On Friday, President Trump announced that his summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, which he cancelled on May 24th, was back on for the originally-scheduled date of June 12th in Singapore. The announcement came after an extended meeting between Trump and North Korean official Kim Yong-chol, who traveled to the White House to deliver a letter from Chairman Kim Jong-un. "This was literally going to be the delivery of a letter and it ended up being a two-hour conversation with the second most powerful man in North Korea," said Trump. The two leaders spoke about a future peace treaty to end the Korean War and Trump promised Kim not to impose any new sanctions on North Korea while the two sides were "talking so nicely." The Details Kim's visit to Washington represents a significant turn of events in relations between North Korea and the US. Less than two weeks ago, Trump cancelled the summit with Kim Jong-un over "tremendous anger and open hostility" towards the US. Two days later, Trump suggested the summit was still a possibility and the State Department confirmed officials from both sides would be meeting in the DMZ and in Singapore to make preparations for the summit. Trump on Friday told reporters not to expect denuclearization to be accomplished after the first meeting. "You're talking about years of hostility; years of problems; years of, really, hatred between so many different nations," said Trump. "But I think you're going to have a very positive result in the end. Not from one meeting." Experts believe Trump is banking on his ability to form a personal relationship with the young dictator and convince him that the US is not a threat. South Korea has also offered to help mitigate Chairman Kim's concerns, including his suspicion that the US will try to overthrow his regime after he gives up his nukes.
