Your support is essential for our investigative journalism (and it will be doubled) No images? I’ve won multiple national awards for my work as an investigative reporter. And I’m one of this year’s additions to the team at The Conversation, which is known for its thoughtful, insightful, evidence-based journalism. With my work at The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Newsweek and other stellar news organizations, I thought I’d seen the most innovative media models. But then I discovered The Conversation. And I’ve found that researchers, scientists and professors could be among the best partners an investigative journalist could have. Check out our first investigative project, [Heists Worth Billions](, which exposed the world of sham bank accounts, mail theft and secret online marketplaces, where criminal gangs get away with stealing from pretty much anyone’s bank account, while big banks and law enforcement do almost nothing. I collaborated with David Maimon, a professor of criminal justice and criminology at Georgia State, in turning a treasure trove of research he had gathered over time into compelling journalism. It was a story that people needed to know about because of how many people these heists impact daily. And that’s what we saw in the responses to that story − the shock, horror, frustration … and gratitude for our investigative journalism. Here on the investigative desk at The Conversation, my colleagues and I uncover truth that is often hidden and buried, and we shed light on what people need to know. And you can trust it because we get you evidence to back up what we’re saying -- straight from the researchers themselves. (One of our upcoming projects has an advisory panel of 16 academic researchers vetting all our work.) And then we give away our stories and findings for free to our readers to read and to media outlets all over the country, from Alaska to Alabama, to republish. Our research partners and our team are sitting on mountains of evidence. We have stories that are desperately waiting to be told. My colleagues and I want to expose wrongdoing as well as critical issues hurting the fabric of our society. But we can’t do it alone. We need you with us. Will you support our work and mission today? Give right now and your gift will be doubled, thanks to the generosity of The Conversation’s board of trustees, who are doing a dollar-for-dollar match of your gifts up to $65,000. [Donate monthly]( [Donate once]( We want to inspire people to ask questions, to ignite change. We want you, our reader, to know what you have a right to know. That is in our DNA and our mission. Whether you donate or not, we’re here for you. But if you can, [won’t you consider donating to support this work?]( With thanks, Kurt Eichenwald
