Thanksgiving, through The Conversation’s lens No images? [Click here]( [Your donation matched 2x to help us reach 2022 goal]( Dear Reader, Just last month, almost everyone who works at The Conversation U.S. gathered in Boston for our annual retreat. Despite a packed agenda, I had a chance to ask my colleagues: “What do you think we’re trying to accomplish at The Conversation?” I wish I’d taken a picture of the sticky notes they all scribbled on. By the end of the discussion, one thing was clear: We work here because we care passionately about giving you, the reader, the most accurate and best-researched journalism possible in a world filled with propaganda and misinformation. We want to bring you articles no one else does – from interesting, quirky ones to those loaded with information that could save your life. At the end of the day, in these crazy, complicated, turbulent times, we want to help you make sense of a complex world. Let’s take Thanksgiving as an example. If you visit our site today, you’ll see a piece on how Thanksgiving stories gloss over the history of U.S. settlement on Native lands. At the same time, in an acknowledgment of what the holiday has evolved into and what it means to so many (FOOD!), there’s a piece on how Thanksgiving side dishes are delicious and can also be nutritious. And right next to that is a piece on Unthanksgiving. And a few days ago, we had an article on cranberries. Here’s a picture of our team, dedicated to giving you all the information, perspective and analysis you need to not be overwhelmed by the noise around us, and to make informed decisions on matters large and small. These are the people who identify the stories that need to be told, who find the scientists and cutting-edge research at the heart of those stories, and who work tirelessly to make those articles interesting, accessible and relevant to you. For us, this Thanksgiving is an opportunity to thank you sincerely for reading us. If you have a second, would you please reply to this email to tell us what we mean to you? What part do we play in your daily life? And if our commitment to an informed and civically engaged society inspires you, please consider donating to us. We would be very grateful to have your support as we head into the end of the year, the time that is critical to our overall fundraising goals. Large or small, single or monthly and sustaining, every bit counts. If you can make a major gift of $1,000 or more, we will thank you with the latest addition to our book series. It’s The Conversation on Guns and features a range of incredibly thought-provoking articles from our authors. [Give once]( [Give monthly]( You are the reason we exist.
