Help fund a new initiative, and get a 2X match No images? [Click here]( [The Conversation U.S.]( Dear Reader, At The Conversation, we love books. We admire the thinkers who pour decades of learning into writing them. We recognize that the best academic books can change how the public understands the economy, society, science and history in important ways. They can introduce critical new ideas for readers to absorb and discuss. We know you also thirst for new ideas. That’s why, as we’re laying our plans for 2023, we're asking you to partner with us to help fund a new Books and Ideas editor. This new editor will commission stories that bring new ideas to the public and shed light on issues facing society today through the lens of books, both new and classic. This will allow us to supplement what we already do so well in providing news analysis and the latest research. Your support will allow us to prove that our readers are hungry for this kind of content. We intend to take the idea to funders, both individuals and foundations. Your donation today will give us the momentum we need to get this new section going. We don’t send requests for support to recent donors or subscribers. This email is the one and only exception because we don’t want you to miss out on being a part of something you might truly love. [Donate now and our board will generously match your gift, dollar for dollar](. This match applies to the next $50,000 in donations committed by the end of the year – and that includes your recurring donation for an entire year – or donations by check. We want to do something more: We hope to begin building a community of our most dedicated readers by starting a book club moderated by The Conversation’s editors and featuring some of the most exciting authors writing for us. If that idea sounds stimulating to you, a gift of $20/month, which will get doubled to $40 thanks to our board match, will get it off the ground. That's the cost of one good new paperback book. In exchange for your partnership at that level, you’ll get invited to these special book conversations in 2023. That should help slake your thirst for new ideas. [Double my $10/month donation]( [Double my $20/month donation]( [Double my one-time donation]( There has been a substantial erosion of coverage of books and ideas in the American media over recent decades. We’d like to begin to address this gap.
