Got a non-profit you founded with an ambitious vision for change and impact?
Whether it is educational equity in our schools, empowering the young to be employable and independent, making healthcare affordable and accessible to all or even solving homelessness - if you are looking to solve problems that affect the economically marginalised on a large scale - then read on!
Despite Indiaâs spectacular economic growth, we are home to the second largest number of poor people. Only Nigeria is behind us.
So if we need to make Indiaâs growth story equitable, there is a need to solve the problems of people at the bottom of the pyramid. These problems exist at a large scale and cannot be solved by any one organisation or intervention. It requires an army of problem solvers and innovators to tackle the varied puzzle pieces needed to bridge the gap.
Businesses are unable to solve problems faced by the bottom of the pyramid; this space primarily requires non-profit models and solutions - which is where founders like yourself, or perhaps someone you know comes in the picture.
Admittedly, starting up as a non-profit is not easy in India. While the country has the world's third-largest tech start-up eco-system, support for early-stage non-profit start-ups leaves a lot to be desired.
The facts on the ground make it clear that non-profit start-ups go through prolonged starvation of funding - as they do not have access to institutional funding sources such as CSR for the first three years and only a small portion of them are lucky to get domestic foundations to invest in their ideas early enough.
Such non-profits struggle to find capital to implement their models, test their ideas or to make course corrections. Critically, they also lack access to mentorships that can accelerate their journey in the right direction.
Non-profit start-ups with a bold vision need an ecosystem of support to enable them to have an impact on a large scale.
However, this is changing. And here is an opportunity if you are seeking such a support system:
[N/Core]( is announcing the launch of N/3, their third cohort in the open incubation category. They are looking for ambitious founders of promising non-profit start-ups in India, who solve problems affecting economically disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.
As part of this cohort, in partnership with Mphasis, they will also [incubate]( to five non-profits solving problems related to land and housing including but not limited to land security, informal urban settlements, financial inclusion and affordable housing, legal awareness and aid, women's right to land and inheritance, land data and records, survey and mapping solutions through their partnership with Omidyar Network.
Each selected non-profit will receive an innovation grant of Rs 10 Lakh, dedicated mentoring by N/Core Partners along with access to N/Core's network of sector stalwarts, alumni and CSR Council.
N/Core Partners such as Madhav Chavan, Co-founder and former CEO of Pratham; Sanjay Purohit, Chief Curator at Societal Platform and former chairman of Board at Infosys Consulting; KR Lakshminarayana, Chief Endowment Officer at Azim Premji Foundation will invest their time and expertise to provide strategic mentorship and in-depth support through six months of incubation, and beyond.
So, if you are a smart problem-solver who likes to challenge the status quo and has the potential to create sustainable change, [do give it a shot!](
The last date for the application is 20th May 2019.
