We’re sharing our best tips to keep you and your loved ones safe on July 4th! [Happy Fourth of July from the American Red Cross!]( Independence Day is almost here! Whether you’re spending your holiday on the patio, by the water or on the couch, we want you and your loved ones to stay safe! That’s why we’re sharing some of our best July Fourth safety tips with you! [Firework Safety]( Fireworks: - The safest way to enjoy fireworks? Leave them to the professionals, and stay at least 500 feet away from where they’re launched. - If you choose to use your own fireworks: - Never give fireworks to small children. - Don’t point them at anything other than the empty sky. - Always wear eye protection and keep water or an extinguisher close by! [Grilling Safety]( Grilling: - Only grill outside, and keep your grill away from anything that could catch fire. - Never leave a grill unattended. - Don’t add starter fluid when the coals are already ignited. [Swimming Safety]( Swimming: - Get out of the water at the first sign of thunder and lightning. - Swim only when a lifeguard is present and in a designated swimming area. - Don’t dive headfirst, and walk in open waters carefully.
