Here’s one example of a winning trade Let’s start with a bearish trade that gave us a quick 30% winner in 5 days. United Parcel Service (UPS) plunged after a dreadful earnings miss at the end of January. You can see from the chart that the stock made a “dead-cat bounce” that took it back to resistance at $109, where it stalled. The technicals suggested a drop back to support at $105 — so we bought the April 105 puts at $1.88. [Button: Grab Your Seat]( days later, we sold them for $2.45, netting 57 cents. 1 standard options contract controls 100 shares. So in this case, just 5 contracts netted you $285. Here’s another Take a look at the chart below. Apple (AAPL) has been in a fantastic uptrend for a while now. It did consolidate a bit in early March, but it finally broke out of its “symmetrical triangle continuation pattern.” That’s a fancy term that simply means once AAPL broke out, it was likely headed higher. We were bullish on Apple. But since it had already moved up a ton, we decided on a bullish trade that would also mitigate our risk. So instead of just buying April calls outright, we traded a “bull call vertical spread” instead. In this case, with AAPL trading at about $141, we bought the $142 call for one leg of the spread. Then, since technical analysis capped the likely short-term upside at $145, we sold $145 calls. Basically, this cut our cost in half, compared to just buying the calls alone. In early March, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) was bouncing off support (the lower dotted line). So the time looked right to buy April 105 call options. The stock was trading at about $101.50, and we calculated upside resistance at $112. That would be a pretty sweet move. One week later NVDA had indeed jumped higher to about $110. As they say on the street, “Bulls make money, bears make money, but pigs get slaughtered.” In other words, it never pays to get too greedy.
