Appellate court upholds controversial voting conviction
A state appellate court declined to overturn the conviction of a Tarrant County woman who was sentenced to five years in prison after voting in 2016 while on supervised release for a federal crime. According to the [Texas Tribune]( a three-judge panel of the Fort Worth appeals court affirmed the ruling made in the case of Crystal Mason, who was convicted of illegal voting, a second-degree state felony. Mason cast a provisional ballot in the 2016 presidential election on the advice of a poll worker, and was then arrested several months later, even though her ballot had been rejected and her vote was never counted.
