Council Member Resigns
Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway [resigned from the Dallas City Council on Thursday, the same day he pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges](. Caraway admitted to accepting $450,000 in bribes and kickbacks. "Over the past several weeks, through a lot of prayer and soul searching, I have decided that I must take responsibility for my actions," Caraway wrote in his resignation letter. "I have dedicated much of my life to serving others, but have never claimed to be without sin. I am truly sorry that I must end my career as an elected official because I betrayed the public's trust that I worked so very hard to earn."

A[42-year-old man was bitten by a shark on Thursday near Crystal Beach](, Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset confirmed. The injury, just above the knee, was not life threatening. "He was awake, talking in the truck," Trochesset said of the victim. The type of shark or the circumstances of the attack were not immediately known.

Beto Beer
An Austin brewery has rolled out [a new line of beer called "Beto,"]( in honor of the Senator Ted Cruz's challenger for his U.S. Senate seat. Circle Brewing said it intends to debut the beer on August 18 at a party that will feature a voter registration drive. “Our goal (with the Beto beer) is not to drive a political wedge, but rather bridge the gap in an increasingly hostile and virulent political climate,” Circle co-founder Ben Sabel said in a news release.
