THE STATE OF TEXAS
Robert E. Lee Survives
Going against the grain of much of the nation, the Tyler school board decided to [keep the name of its local high school Robert E. Lee](. In a precursor to today's movement against Confederate symbols, in 1972 the school changed its mascot from Rebels to Red Raiders, and they retired the school's Confederate flag as well as the school song, "Dixie." But when one of the board members this week made a motion to change the school's name, the rest of the board sat silently. The motion died and Robert E. Lee survived one more battle.
When heroes and despots are [the same person]( "I Warned Him"
A Houston grandmother told police she gave the intruder fair warning this week after he exposed himself and began masturbating in front of her. As she retreated into her house and locked the door, the 38-year-old man followed her and tried to gain access to the house—despite her warning that she would shoot him. [And shoot him she did](, pulling a gun and firing through her front door, striking him once in the chest. Police said the man was treated at a local hospital and is expected to survive. "I don't get in nobody's business," the 68-year-old grandmother said. "It's just me and him, and like I keep saying, I warned him."

She Did Cover Up
A photo of an Austin woman responding to someone asking her to cover up as she breastfed her child is going viral. Melanie Dudley was nursing her child in the extremely humid Mexican resort town of Cabo San Lucas when someone approached her and asked her to cover up. Dudley dutifully grabbed a swaddling blanket and [threw it over her head,]( leaving her nursing baby undisturbed. "I’ve never met her, but I think she’s AWESOME!!! (Please share! With permission, I’ve made this post public — I’m SO over people shaming women for nursing!!!," wrote Carol Lockwood, who posted the photo, which has generated more than 16,000 comments and 202,000 shares, on Facebook.
