QUOTE OF THE DAY
“While you have publicly offered to reimburse the $84,000 in taxpayer funds you wrongly used to settle a sexual harassment claim, there is no legal recourse requiring you to give that money back to Congress. I am urging you to give those funds back to the counties in your district to cover the costs of the June 30, 2018, special election."
—Governor Greg Abbott [in a letter]( to former U.S. representative Blake Farenthold, of Corpus Christi. Abbott's request to his fellow Republican comes one day after he called a special election to fill Farenthold's seat in Congress. Farenthold suddenly resigned after it was made public that he spent taxpayer funds to settle a sexual harassment claim made against him by one of his former staffers.

President Donald Trump's campaign manager, Brad Parscale, took to Twitter [to express his frustration]( that San Antonio has been slow on bidding for the Republican National Convention in 2020. Parscale has encouraged San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg to bid on hosting the convention, which could bring in hundreds of millions of dollars into the community. “Coming soon to #SanAntonio: another mayor makes an epic political mistake that takes a possible 200MM from the community." Parscale tweeted. "Why??? I want to rip the last hair I have out of my head." The mayor said he would not respond to "tweetstorms" from political operatives.

The NFL's Taxpaid Kickback
A three-day football fest centered around the NFL draft kicked off Thursday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, and [Texans helped pay for it](. Governor Greg Abbott Event Trust Fund is kicking in $2.1 million to help Jerry Jones and his Dallas Cowboys host the event. An expected 300,000 football fans will descend on the home of the Cowboys, which is certain to generate a lot of spending. But because Abbott's office and event organizers are being tight-lipped about how the money is being used, there is no way to understand if the Texas taxpayer will ever see any of that money back.
