For those unfamiliar with it, it’s a peer-to-peer funds transfer service here in Singapore where you can easily send someone money using just their mobile phone number. It’s transformed the way we pay and I think it’s made life significantly more convenient. What’s cool about PayNow is that it’s also got linkages to other payment systems elsewhere in Asia. You can use it to pay people in Thailand via PromptPay, and just last month, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced a new linkage between PayNow and India’s United Payments Interface (UPI). This does beg the question - how will it affect the way we go about our cross-border payments today? My colleague Melissa goes a little deeper in today’s premium story. -- Stefanie  ---------------------------------------------------------------  THE BIG STORY [Winners and losers of SG and India’s novel PayNow-UPI linkage]( The real-time linkage may increase the convenience of cross-border payments but it’s less revolutionary than you’d think. --------------------------------------------------------------- TRENDING NEWS [InsuranceDekho acquires Sequoia-backed firm to bolster SME reach]( Verak, which has been operating for only 13 months, distributes insurance to small and medium-sized enterprises. [SEA’s listed tech majors in 11 charts: Bukalapak’s unprofitable year]( These companies could dictate whether more global investors will back Southeast Asia and decide the fate of the region’s tech industry. [Surge leads $3m round of SG API firm]( Dozer offers a plug-and-play data infrastructure backend that simplifies the creation of real-time APIs. [Byju’s in final stage of raising up to $700m, valuation stays flat]( The edtech major has completed due diligence and is likely to close the deal in two to three weeks, a source told Tech in Asia. [TikTok to face probe in Vietnam over ‘harmful content’]( TikTok previously deleted more than 2.4 million videos from Vietnamese users for inciting harassment and suicide, among others, VNExpress reported. ---------------------------------------------------------------  TECH IN ASIA'S FOUNDERS MEETUP: PHILIPPINES Join us and share the hardest challenges you’ve faced as a founder If you’re an entrepreneur based in the Philippines, you’re invited to Tech in Asia’s Regional Founders Meetup, which will be held on April 25 at Draper Startup House - 5048 P.
