THE DAILY CRUNCH WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12 2018 By Anthony Ha Apple mulls the impact of the China/U.S. trade war, Google's CEO gets off easy and we review the Amazon Echo Input. Here's your Daily Crunch for December 12, 2018. 1. [Apple could end up manufacturing iPhones in another country due to tariffs]( According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is thinking about multiple scenarios when it comes to tariffs and iPhone production. Right now, iPhones are not affected directly by the trade war between China and the U.S. — but if U.S. President Donald Trump decides to raise tariffs on smartphones, it could be a big deal for the company. It’s unclear if all production could move to another country, or just production for the U.S. For now, it's simply executives playing a little game of “what if.” 2. [With Congress focused on political bias, Google’s CEO gets off easy]( Sundar Pichai wasn’t called to Capitol Hill to testify on Google’s role in Russian disinformation, its controversial plan to re-enter China or recent news that Google+ exposed private data. Instead, he was summoned to Washington as the last gasp of a Republican-led House Judiciary Committee hellbent on performing its own preoccupation with perceived political bias against conservatives. [Review: Amazon Echo Input is the easiest way to stream media to speakers]( The premise is simple: The Input is an Echo Dot without a speaker. It has a mic, two buttons and, most importantly, a 3.5mm output, allowing the Input to serve media to amps and powered speakers. 4. [Here’s how Lyft envisions self-driving cars communicating with pedestrians]( Lyft’s solution entails developing a predetermined message to display on the most visible car window. In one example, each window includes a projector, a see-through screen or another display device to communicate the message. 5. [China’s Tencent Music raises $1.1 billion in downsized US IPO]( It's one of the largest tech listings of the year, but the pricing is at the bottom end of the $13 to $15 range, indicating that the much-anticipated IPO has felt the effects of an uncertain market. 6. [Procter & Gamble acquires Walker & Company, Tristan Walker will remain as CEO]( P&G says the acquisition will help it “better serve consumers of color around the world.” 7. [Facebook redesigns Life Events feature with animated photos, videos and more]( The feature has existed since the launch of Timeline, but only offered a fairly nondescript type of post until now. Moving forward, users will be able to add animated photos or videos, photos from the people or Page you’ve tagged (like those of your partner or your new workplace), or you can pick an image from Facebook’s own art collection.
