South Africa's largest financial union, South African Society of Bank Officials (SASBO), is [set to begin a nationwide strike]( on Friday, September 27 over shifting tides in the country's banking sector which is culminating in job losses. The union says the sector's plans to pivot to digital tools and services are taking the livelihood of its members and has planned five marches throughout the country in Johannesburg, Durban, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town. The union has threatened to shut down automated teller machines across the country as well as internet banking facilities. The Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) will head to court sometime today to attempt to halt the planned strike action.
