Telecoming will distribute Maliyo's games to mobile users in 6 African countries. Maliyo Games is one of Nigeria's foremost game companies founded in 2012 by Hugo Obi. In 2015, the company [built an appstore for the easy discovery]( of local apps when it realized distribution was a major problem. Africa's game development sector is still nascent but there are companies like Cameroon's Kiro'o Games [which recently received capital]( from the Cameroon Angels Network. This month Google announced the [Indie Games Accelerator programme]( supporting African game developers to achieve their full potential on Google Play, a move that could help the sector with funding and distribution. Cybersecurity company, Kaspersky Lab [has announced plans]( to open an office in Rwanda. The new office will be used to support its East African business and the company will also collaborate with the Rwandan government to protect it against cyber threats. The Russian company first set foot in Africa with [the launch of its regional office]( in South Africa in 2009. It currently operates in almost 200 countries and territories across the world. Kwidex, a Ghanaian digital agriculture startup [has been named the winner]( of the Betway fintech challenge. The startup beat nine others to win the prize of $3,800. Kwidex crowdfunds capital from individuals to invest in farmers and other agricultural projects. The health tech sector in Nigeria is 15 years old and has received about US$7.88 million in funding to date, with the earliest funding received in 2014. The body licensed to serve Kenya's esports sector, [Esports Kenya Federation, will launch]( the country's first e-sports league in July 2019. The league which will comprise 16 teams, will allow corporate organizations to register, own and manage a team. Despite limited internet connectivity, esports has been growing gradually in some African countries. South African telco, [Telkom launched its own esports company]( in 2017 while Multichoice started a dedicated esports channel. There's also [a growing esports industry]( in Egypt. Distributed Power Africa (DPA), a subsidiary of Econet Wireless Global, [has partnered with]( a global energy company, EDF (Électicité De France) to provide commercial and industrial energy solutions across Africa. The partnership entails the development of solar panels and batteries which will be initially made available in South Africa, Ivory Coast and Nigeria before expanding to other markets. According to the UNDP, [the energy shortage is costing African economies]( an annual average of about 4% of its GDP (i.e. US$60.52 billion). Closing the gap would increase productivity for organizations and individuals.
