A group of 15 media organisations in Nigeria have launched a fact checking program called the CrossCheck Nigeria Project, [the AFP reports](. Per the report, the project aims to get normally competing newsrooms to work together to investigate and disprove erroneous claims, particularly on social media. The project has about 50 journalists from local print, broadcast and online media, supported by academic partners at the University of Lagos. A lot has been said of technology transfer between African countries and how hard it is to travel within Africa compared to the rest of the world and this report gives insight into what that could look like in the near term. Google announced the first winners of the Google Impact Challenge Africa at an awards ceremony in Lagos last night. Twelve non-profits and social enterprises were each awarded a share of $2m in grant funding. Three out of the four winners were chosen by the judges, they include - The Cece Yara Foundation, HelpMum, Project Enable Africa and the final winner - chosen by the general public - was Vetsark. All four winners will receive $250K each, while the eight runners up will each receive $125K.
