Ethiopia [has announced]( it would launch its first earth observatory satellite in September 2019 [with help from China](. The $8 million capsule will be launched from China, but it's command and control center will be based in Ethiopia. Despite a new reformative government in power, Ethiopia's [long history of internet shutdowns]( and state oppression is causing some jitters with respect to this planned satellite launch. There's also the thing about [China's propensity to spy]( on nations it builds technology for.
Jumia has partnered with French food retailer Carrefour to sell the latter's products on Jumia's e-commerce platforms in Kenya, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Senegal. [This blog post]( on the partnership says "customers will now have access to a large variety of Carrefour products, and be able to get them delivered conveniently to their homes." This partnership comes after the signing of commercial agreements between Jumia and Carrefour's local partners: Majid Al Futtaim in Kenya, and CFAO Retail for Côte dâIvoire, Cameroon and Senegal.
iSON Xperiences (formerly iSON BPO Limited), a call center company operating in 14 countries in Africa and India has raised a $51million structured loan and equity investment from Dubaiâs Gulf Capital and AfricInvest, a pan-African mid-cap-focused private equity firm, [per Techmoran](. The funds will go into expanding iSON's services and expansion into more countries.
Cape Town based equity crowdfunding platform Uprise.Africa [has announced]( the appointment of Prabir Badal as its new chairman. COO and co-founder Patrick Schofield, along with Head of Relationships Vuyisa Qabaka, will also step down from day-to-day operations and take board memberships.
Techpoint did [a profile of Premier Hub]( an innovation hub located in Akure, Ondo State, South Western Nigeria which just launched in August 2018. It joins a growing list of hubs that have been popping up across Nigeria beyond the commercial city of Lagos as Nigeria's tech ecosystem continues to mature and other states start to get in on the action.
