We do, too – but in ours, we spent a heartbreaking amount of time checking in on each other. After every school shooting, every new headline, every student or colleague lost, we’d reach out with a text. November 30, 2021 – the day of the Oxford High School shooting in Michigan – was no different… and that was exactly the problem. We decided something had to be different. We had to tell a different story. And at the end of that text thread, we launched the idea that became Teachers Unify. Now, we want to tell you the three main reasons why teachers across the nation are unifying under this banner, and fighting for the change we need. But first, we have to ask: [Is there any way you can chip in to help fund our work amplifying teachers’ voices in the fight to end gun violence? >>](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0TSaHR0cHM6Ly9zZWN1cmUuYWN0Ymx1ZS5jb20vZG9uYXRlL2dhLXR1LWVtP2Ftb3VudD0yNSZyZWZjb2RlPTIwMjQwNDIyX2VtX2ZyX2IxX3RocmVlcmVhc29uc19jbF9saW5rMiZjZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOCZyZWZjb2RlMj0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZWNkbWM9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4VwNzcGNCCmYmB90mZq_FBZhSG3RyaXN0cmFtYmFsZHdpbjkxQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgEAAABUQ~~) [DONATE NOW](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0TMaHR0cHM6Ly9zZWN1cmUuYWN0Ymx1ZS5jb20vZG9uYXRlL2dhLXR1LWVtP2Ftb3VudD0xMCZyZWZjb2RlPTIwMjQwNDIyX2VtX2ZyX2IxX3RocmVlcmVhc29uc19jbCZjZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOCZyZWZjb2RlMj0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZWNkbWM9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4VwNzcGNCCmYmB90mZq_FBZhSG3RyaXN0cmFtYmFsZHdpbjkxQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgEAAABUQ~~) So why this movement, and why now? - This epidemic has touched the lives of every teacher. Two of us are school shooting survivors, but every teacher we know has been through a lockdown drill, answered unanswerable questions from students, or faced a direct threat at their school. - We’re tired of politicians suggesting “solutions” that won’t help us. We know best what we need to keep ourselves and our students safe. And if no one will ask us, we’re going to step up and tell them. - We don’t get to move on. When the cameras and politicians leave, our school communities still live with the aftermath of a tragedy. We need a way to keep our voices in the conversation after the initial burst of outrage and attention. We cannot teach like this, and we cannot live like this. Already, Teachers Unify has been able to make a difference, leading trainings and building our presence on campuses nationwide. But we cannot stop here – and that’s why we need your help. [We’re teachers, not fundraisers, so our work depends on support from generous people like you who believe in us. If you’re with us to help end gun violence, and believe in the power of teachers to lead this charge, please, will you chip in $25 right now to keep us going against the odds >>](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0TSaHR0cHM6Ly9zZWN1cmUuYWN0Ymx1ZS5jb20vZG9uYXRlL2dhLXR1LWVtP2Ftb3VudD0yNSZyZWZjb2RlPTIwMjQwNDIyX2VtX2ZyX2IxX3RocmVlcmVhc29uc19jbF9saW5rMiZjZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOCZyZWZjb2RlMj0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZWNkbWM9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4VwNzcGNCCmYmB90mZq_FBZhSG3RyaXN0cmFtYmFsZHdpbjkxQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgEAAABUQ~~) [DONATE $10](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0TMaHR0cHM6Ly9zZWN1cmUuYWN0Ymx1ZS5jb20vZG9uYXRlL2dhLXR1LWVtP2Ftb3VudD0xMCZyZWZjb2RlPTIwMjQwNDIyX2VtX2ZyX2IxX3RocmVlcmVhc29uc19jbCZjZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOCZyZWZjb2RlMj0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZWNkbWM9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4VwNzcGNCCmYmB90mZq_FBZhSG3RyaXN0cmFtYmFsZHdpbjkxQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgEAAABUQ~~) [DONATE $25](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0TMaHR0cHM6Ly9zZWN1cmUuYWN0Ymx1ZS5jb20vZG9uYXRlL2dhLXR1LWVtP2Ftb3VudD0yNSZyZWZjb2RlPTIwMjQwNDIyX2VtX2ZyX2IxX3RocmVlcmVhc29uc19jbCZjZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOCZyZWZjb2RlMj0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZWNkbWM9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4VwNzcGNCCmYmB90mZq_FBZhSG3RyaXN0cmFtYmFsZHdpbjkxQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgEAAABUQ~~) [DONATE $50](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0TMaHR0cHM6Ly9zZWN1cmUuYWN0Ymx1ZS5jb20vZG9uYXRlL2dhLXR1LWVtP2Ftb3VudD01MCZyZWZjb2RlPTIwMjQwNDIyX2VtX2ZyX2IxX3RocmVlcmVhc29uc19jbCZjZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOCZyZWZjb2RlMj0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZWNkbWM9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4VwNzcGNCCmYmB90mZq_FBZhSG3RyaXN0cmFtYmFsZHdpbjkxQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgEAAABUQ~~) [DONATE $100](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0TNaHR0cHM6Ly9zZWN1cmUuYWN0Ymx1ZS5jb20vZG9uYXRlL2dhLXR1LWVtP2Ftb3VudD0xMDAmcmVmY29kZT0yMDI0MDQyMl9lbV9mcl9iMV90aHJlZXJlYXNvbnNfY2wmY2RtYz0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZTI9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4JnJlZmNvZGVjZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOFcDc3BjQgpmJgfdJmavxQWYUht0cmlzdHJhbWJhbGR3aW45MUBnbWFpbC5jb21YBAAAAVE~) [DONATE $250](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0TNaHR0cHM6Ly9zZWN1cmUuYWN0Ymx1ZS5jb20vZG9uYXRlL2dhLXR1LWVtP2Ftb3VudD0yNTAmcmVmY29kZT0yMDI0MDQyMl9lbV9mcl9iMV90aHJlZXJlYXNvbnNfY2wmY2RtYz0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZTI9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4JnJlZmNvZGVjZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOFcDc3BjQgpmJgfdJmavxQWYUht0cmlzdHJhbWJhbGR3aW45MUBnbWFpbC5jb21YBAAAAVE~) [DONATE OTHER](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0TCaHR0cHM6Ly9zZWN1cmUuYWN0Ymx1ZS5jb20vZG9uYXRlL2dhLXR1LWVtP3JlZmNvZGU9MjAyNDA0MjJfZW1fZnJfYjFfdGhyZWVyZWFzb25zX2NsJmNkbWM9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4JnJlZmNvZGUyPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOCZyZWZjb2RlY2RtYz0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDhXA3NwY0IKZiYH3SZmr8UFmFIbdHJpc3RyYW1iYWxkd2luOTFAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAAFR) Abbey, Sarah, and Sari, Co-founders, Teachers Unify --------------------------------------------------------------- ~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0SPaHR0cHM6Ly90d2l0dGVyLmNvbS9UZWFjaGVyc1VuaWZ5P2NkbWM9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4JnJlZmNvZGUyPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOCZyZWZjb2RlY2RtYz0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDhXA3NwY0IKZiYH3SZmr8UFmFIbdHJpc3RyYW1iYWxkd2luOTFAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAAFR ~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0SWaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaW5zdGFncmFtLmNvbS90ZWFjaGVyc3VuaWZ5Lz9jZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOCZyZWZjb2RlMj0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZWNkbWM9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4VwNzcGNCCmYmB90mZq_FBZhSG3RyaXN0cmFtYmFsZHdpbjkxQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgEAAABUQ~~ [TeachersUnify.org](~/AAPPAAA~/RgRoCWIHP0SIaHR0cHM6Ly90ZWFjaGVyc3VuaWZ5Lm9yZy8_Y2RtYz0yZlQwaW1XbnNCdHZwUVJQN2dmcjVwOHljbDgmcmVmY29kZTI9MmZUMGltV25zQnR2cFFSUDdnZnI1cDh5Y2w4JnJlZmNvZGVjZG1jPTJmVDBpbVduc0J0dnBRUlA3Z2ZyNXA4eWNsOFcDc3BjQgpmJgfdJmavxQWYUht0cmlzdHJhbWJhbGR3aW45MUBnbWFpbC5jb21YBAAAAVE~) We're fighting to make our schools safer for educators, school staff, students, and families. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
