So as soon as we went into lockdown, I was filming from day one.”]( In March of 2020, Amanda had to cancel a full schedule of in-person shoemaking classes with no idea when she’d be able to reschedule. The possibility of losing her business—the business she had owned for the entirety of her adult life—was staring her right in the face. She had to take action fast. “I just knew...this is the moment to go online. So as soon as we went into lockdown, I was filming from day one.” That’s when Amanda started on Teachable. From her first course, Beginner's Guide To Home Shoemaking, Amanda spun up a few smaller classes to add as upsells, like sandal-making, sneaker-making, and pattern-making, to name a few. “By teaching, I retain that passion side of [my craft] because every day I'm communicating with people in a different way.” she says. “I'm being challenged by being asked questions about things that I really have to think about.” Several months after her launch, Amanda revisited the goals she wrote for herself in the beginning of 2020. Among them was to launch an online course by the end of the year. She never could’ve predicted the circumstances that led her to accomplish that goal so far ahead of her own deadline—but once she did it, she wondered what took her so long.
