The latest news from FineWoodworking.com - April 2nd, 2022 [View in Browser]( [Fine Woodworking Logo]( [Subscribe]( Hello, {EMAIL}! [Make a Simple, Sturdy Crosscut Sled]( I have a confession to make. I don't use a crosscut sled. About four years ago, Mike Pekovich upgraded his tablesaw and sold me his old Unisaw for a nice price. When I went to pick it up, he loaded a pile of sleds into the truck as well. [If you know Mike's techniques]( you know that he utilizes a lot of sleds. Well, none of those old sleds would work on his new saw, so he decided they should just move on with the old saw. This was a blessing and curse. Sure, I had six or eight sleds to go with my saw, but for some reason, it felt like I couldn't use them. Sleds are user made, formed and nurtured by you and for you—like a lightsaber. You wouldn't trust someone else's lightsaber, would you? I'm not going to trust someone else's tablesaw sled. Some may gasp, but I disassembled the sleds. I knew I would never use them, and they were taking up too much precious space in my shop. The MDF and plywood have been turned into other jigs. A couple of the hardwood fences have become ukulele necks. Really. Mike uses nice stock for his fences. For the past four years I have been making do with my miter gauge and one of Mike's old sleds. I don't like using that sled and I need to remake it. [Marc Adams' crosscut article]( (and the [accompanying video]( will likely guide the way. His sled values both accuracy and safety, and of course, his techniques are foolproof. The force is strong with him. —Ben Strano [Read More]( [twitter]( [facebook]( [linkedin]( [pinterest]( [STL262: The old tool trinity]( Vic, Mike, and Ben discuss old machines, professional woodworking, milling, and accuracy.
