The latest news from FineWoodworking.com - March 19th, 2022 [View in Browser]( [Fine Woodworking Logo]( [Subscribe]( Hello, {EMAIL}! [A Tablesaw Sled for Mitered Boxes]( As an aspiring craftsperson, I find it easy to become overwhelmed with the sheer amount of project guides available to me. My first realization upon entering the world of Fine Woodworking was that most projects are like a Matryoshka doll: a project, within a project, within a project– at least they often turn out that way when you start introducing a jig for every need. In order to make things easier, you have to make things a little harder for yourself in the meantime. The results that come to fruition, however, will absolutely benefit you in the long run. The ever-efficient Mike Pekovich invariably demonstrates this in own work, particularly in the evolution of his own crosscut sled tailored to the needs of a mitered box. Despite the mitered box's simplicity, there are many things that could go wrong. (This, of course, was my second realization: that setup and preparation are key to a successful, well-crafted piece.) It takes a few alterations, including the implementation of a handy split-level base, but what he ends up with is a tool fit for even the most thorough innovator.
