Then you’ve arrived at the Big Stage with just one shot to perform. It’s nerve-racking, right? Psychologists have proved repeatedly that placing too much pressure on the moment itself is the easiest way to “choke.” The key is for those athletes to have meaningful attachments outside of their sport. Maybe they cultivate a supportive circle of family and friends. They know they are loved – no matter how well they perform. So, they just go out and try their best with no attachment to the final result. This is the same thing with trading. Successful traders have meaningful attachments outside of the financial markets. Warren Buffett is obsessed with the game of bridge. Paul Tudor Jones is active in his foundation called Robin Hood Foundation. If you are putting too much pressure on your trading, go away to spend time with family and friends. It may help to relax your mind and realize that trading is not going to make or break your life, so there’s no need to place too much pressure on yourself.
