Once you close out a trade, you should review everything the next day. First, start with trade management. Write down notes on how well you traded the setup. Did you sell too early? Or get in too late? If so, which data you could have used to get in better? Was your risk management on the point, or should you have added or reduced your exposure to that trade? Then, move on to trade strategy. Study the strategy behind that trade setup. Ask yourself if you traded this setup 250 times in the future, how would you approach it? Develop rules for this setup, so you can execute them again and again. Finally, end it with a trade review. Write down how you feel about this trade. Was it compatible with your personality? What kind of trading ideas you could develop to use tomorrow – based on what you’ve learned from that trade? Bottom line: Being disciplined to write down and analyze your trades will pay off in the long run. It forces you to consciously recognize your strengths and weaknesses.
