Meet [Alex Hill]( Cook, food blogger, and host of our new show “[Spice Spice Baby]( TASTEMADE: What inspired you to start cooking and how did that passion evolve into sharing your meals on social? ALEX HILL: My mom is the reason I fell in love with cooking. She was so effortless in the kitchen. I just fell in love with the whole process of cooking at a young age and it evolved into bringing people together as I got older. I originally wanted to go to culinary school, but couldn't afford it — but it didn't stop me from pursuing my passion. I started sharing on social through my food blog in 2017 because I wanted to do something for myself outside of my job, but ultimately knew I wanted to be in food full time — but didn't know how! Fast forward six years and I'm on Tastemade! What kinds of cultural or familial influences have shaped your cooking? My mother's side of the family for sure. My mom is Puerto Rican so I  grew up with amazing cooks in the family starting from my grandfather who was a phenomenal cook. It definitely runs in the family! Can you share a specific moment or event where you realized the power of food in bringing people together? This may sound corny, but it's when people stop me in public or send me a DM and they say how they either cooked this for someone special in their life or for themselves. And I just see the confidence and joy in them being proud of how the dish came out or their family's reaction to the dish. It just proves that cooking is love! How do you encourage others to explore their culinary creativity in the kitchen? I always say it's okay to mess up! I still mess up, I'm not a Michelin-star chef and don't strive to be. I just want to instill confidence in people that they can truly cook anything! What's one of your favorite moments from Spice Spice Baby that you're excited for people to see? Definitely the Hispanic Heritage episode. It's a love letter and a thank you to my mom, she is the reason I cook today!
