Iâve been drawing and painting for the past two decades. Acrylic paints and graphite are my favorite mediums, but I also love working with spray paint, stencils, paint markers, gold leaf, charcoals, pastels, gouache and occasionally incorporating paper collage and resin into the mix.  Digital illustration is also a big part of my work life these days. How would you describe your artistic style and how has it evolved over time? Creating powerful women has always been the core subject of my work. Early on, I began depicting inspirational women from my childhood, then expanded my vision as I started seeking and learning more. There was a political moment, a spiritual âgoddessâ phase, and of course a maternal mood. Especially, being a mother of two young children these days. Iâd say my work organically shifts based on my latest interests or with commissions that I come into alignment with. Are there any stories or experiences youâd like to share that influence your depictions of strong, empowered women? Iâd say my women carry an essence that I have always aspired to live by. They carry a message of hope, courage, love, service and serenity. Especially during those difficult life moments we all face. Iâm constantly humbled by the resiliency women have and the challenges we can overcome, while supporting one another. Behind us all, there is a sisterhood village to hold us up and this idea motivates my work and my quality of life profoundly. What was the inspiration for the Tastemade logo design you did in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month? I wanted to create a logo design inspired by Mexican wrought iron designs.  I incorporated illustrations of vegetables used in traditional Mexican recipes, along with designs and colors that evoke a âfiestaâ like vibe, in honor of this special month. What are some specific aspects of your heritage that inspire your art, and how do they manifest in your work? My Mexican, Spanish and Native roots permeate throughout all of my work.  From the colors to the pattern designs I create to the decorative elements I implement into my environments, I have always been greatly inspired by my heritage. How do you hope your art contributes to the broader conversation about Hispanic culture and heritage? For me, creating artwork from my heart and soul has always been a personal mission.  Being authentic to myself and exploring this grateful life I get to live as a Latina woman and as a mother, is the conversation I want to have. Who or what do you consider some of your greatest artistic influences? I love Georgia Oâ Keefe, Frida Kahlo, Alice Neel, Judithe Hernandez, Judy Baca, Remedios Varo, Maria Izquierdo, Henri Matisse and David Hockney to name a few. Iâm also hugely inspired by busy metropolis cities and the flora and fauna within Mother Nature's ecosystem. I love blending these two worlds together when dreaming up my environments. What do you hope audiences take away from your work? Creating has always been a source of upliftment for me. With so many life lessons and growth that human existence is constantly faced with, it helps to have those little sweet moments of pause, when you can feel safe and protected. I hope my visuals can provide a sense of peace and joy to those that it calls to.
