{NAME}, Yes, shadowbanning is very real, but it might not work the way you think it does. You can get shadowbanned even if you don't stir up controversy. A quick reminder, in case you missed part 1. I interviewed my friend Dan Fleyshman, who spends over $60 million per year in influencer marketing, on what it takes to build a company with social media. When I was talking with Dan, he explained that there are certain key phrases that the social media platforms target in order to limit that post's reach. That means that you can have 1,000,000 million followers, and yet only 5 people see your post. Here's what you have to understand about the social media platforms, {NAME}. They want you to stay in the app. So, if you're saying things that send people to your website, to your Youtube video, to your Etsy shop, or anywhere that would take someone outside of the app, your reach is going to get limited. Stop using phrases like: - Link in bio - Buy it now - Discount 20% - Go to my site [In the interview]( Dan says: "Every one of those phrases suppresses the content. Because Instagram and other platforms want to make all the money they know all of the key words that a Fashion Nova type brand utilize…" So, small influencers with 100,000 followers will try to tell their audience about their new brand, but only a handful of their followers will even hear about it because they used so many phrases that get their content suppressed. As you can see, getting suppressed, or getting shadowbanned goes beyond creating controversy with your opinions. You're going to have to get creative to send people to your site, without saying you're sending them to your site. Dan's formula to building a profitable business from $0 What would you do if you had to start from scratch? That's probably the question successful people get asked the most. So I gave Dan a hypothetical situation, and he had to build a $1,000,000 business with no contacts, no home, in a big city, using social media. His answer might surprise you. Let's break down the steps. If you'd rather hear Dan's answer, [click here](. Pick a niche and find the rich people "I would immediately go into the city and I would pick a niche. I like to pick a high end niche." The niche Dan used for the example was luxury real estate. This was his pitch. "I'm going to throw an event this Sunday from 7pm to 10pm, and I'm going to do it at a high-end car dealership. Next Sunday it's going to be at a high-end mansion." How would Dan access a high-end luxury dealership and a high-end mansion? Going to the household name companies in the city, and finding who is the person that runs Sotheby's, or the person that runs the biggest real estate place here, or sells luxury homes, or sells luxury cars. Dan would ask around the streets "where did you buy that house?" You don't need money to do that. The questions Dan would ask: - Where did you buy that house? - Who helped you sell your house? - Who's the biggest real estate agent in town? - Who's the #1 woman real estate agent in town? - Who does the biggest apartment buildings? Start asking everyone to find out who's big in real estate and also who's big in cars. Go to those people and invite them to speak at his fancy, luxury event happening on Sunday at 7pm. "Once I get 1 or 2 of those speakers to confirm, I'm also going to go visit the local luxury car dealership and explain: I'm throwing a luxury real estate event this Sunday at 7pm, I'd love to do it here and bring a bunch of these rich people over to your venue." The two events Dan would throw are free. But, here's the genius thing. The event gives Dan an excuse to walk around downtown in whatever city, inviting people to his fancy event happening at a luxury car dealership. Why luxury? Because it gives Dan an excuse to get a hold of any rich person in the city, to be around him. When he throws the event, it gives him an excuse to get a hold of a videographer-photographer, to go film and photograph the content for free because they'll have exposure to a crowd of wealthy individuals. "The luxury event gives you an excuse to invite the billionaire, the rich reclusive person that never goes out. Even if they don't go, you now have a reason to get a hold of the wealthiest people in the city." Understand this about wealthy people. There isn't a gift you can give someone that's worth over $100 million, that will top an experience. The luxury event is exciting, and it's something that you can't buy. The access wealthy people would have to each other at the luxury event is something that you can't buy. So, now Dan has successful people confirmed as speakers, wealthy people attending the event, and the luxury car dealership has wealthy clients that they can invite. Pay attention! With $0 Dan is now immersed with wealthy people, he has a videographer-photographer to make content, and he's up on stage holding the microphone interviewing the successful speakers. After the event, Dan now has photos and videos with the wealthiest people in the city, at a luxury car dealership, interviewing other high profile individuals. All from throwing a free event. Obviously he would upload all of that content to all social media platforms, which are also free! How to monetize that situation Now that Dan's networked and has access to all of these interesting and wealthy people, there's a lot he can do like: - Charging $1,000 per ticket to go to his next events. - Start consulting. - Do a VIP dinner after the event and charge $1,500 The big question is. How does Dan know this works? Because that's the exact formula he's followed for years. It the formula he used to go from free events to $100,000 per person masterminds. He sold out his $100,000 mastermind to 100 people in a matter of months... that's $10,000,000 in revenue. Here's the most interesting part about Dan's answer... not once did he mention scaling with ads, leveraging the algorithm, or doing anything that put his fate in the hands of the social media companies. He created a situations that he could leverage with social media, but doesn't depend on it. And that's a big lesson. How many people out there only make money using Facebook ads, and have their whole business crash because of a policy change? So, {NAME}, build a business and leverage social media, but make sure you can also make money without having to run ads.
