Yesterday, I held a press conference with bodega owners to call attention to how these hardworking small business owners are plagued by violent crime and robberies on a near daily basis. These small businesses are the heart and soul of the communities they serve, and now weâre seeing them under attack. They're being robbed at gunpoint and store employees are being assaulted in broad daylight. Governor Kathy Hochul has been silent on this very real issue and refuses to fix bail reform, while her hand-picked Lieutenant Governor, Brian Benjamin, unabashedly supports defunding the police. They won't act. I will. I was joined by my running mate, Diana Reyna, who said it best: "This isn't about ideology. It's not about going to the left or to the right, it's about centering on public safety."
