You Can Now Kayak in Death Valley

A rare Western hurricane in August and an unusually rainy February have created [a shallow lake at Badwater Basin]( in Death Valley National park, where salt flats are normally found. [This ephemeral phenomenon]( worth seeing, whether from a kayak or just by standing on shore. Hurry, though, because when I say the lake is shallow, I mean barely a foot deep, and evaporating fast.
