I feel like the science fiction of my childhood promised flying cars in my lifetime, but no matter; we've got something almost as good in the works: [flying boats](. The Navier company is testing electric hydrofoil taxis that this month will begin skimming over the waters of the San Francisco Bay in the hopes that speedy water taxis hold the key to solving the Bay Area's chronic traffic problems. Will it work? Only time will tell, but for now I'm going to be keeping an eye out for the small boats, which will start performing public demonstrations soon, first near San Francisco, and then in Los Angeles, San Diego, and on Lake Tahoe.
