The good: During WWII, the house was featured on our magazine's cover as part of a story aimed at reminding readers of the kind of life our country was fighting for. And in the 1950s, it was owned by the creator of the cartoon Dennis the Menace—the real-life Dennis grew up in it. But, when the current owners purchased it, they found that many of the Depression-era fixtures and the whole knob and tube electrical system belonged in a museum. Bringing the old home into the 21st century was a five-year labor of love that resulted in a beautifully restored, orchard-swathed, swimming pool-cooled classic ranch house that you have to see to believe.
