These Are the Best Beaches in the West

His 2024 edition is out, and to no one's surprise, the West is well represented, taking three of the top 10 slots—including the coveted #1. The West has two things going for it when it comes to beaches, says Dr. Stephen Leatherman, the list's author. One is the fact that Pacific sand tends to be finer and whiter than Atlantic and Gulf coast sand. The other thing we have going for us is Hawaii. Those balmy isles—where every day is a beach-weather day and there's no such thing as private oceanfront—are home to some of the best beaches in not just the West, or even the United States, but in the world.
