They went house to house, threatening children and elders and confiscating food needed to make it through the winter. It’s happening across Russia. If activists speak out against corporate giants in the face of stolen land, devastating oil spills, and contaminated water supplies, they face swift and terrifying repression. Now there’s a way we can help them. These brave heroes need to ramp up their security – and quickly. Our community can get them the funds they desperately need to establish secure communication channels and hold security trainings. As private companies pillage resource-rich Indigenous lands for profit, these communities are refusing to be scared into silence. Will you help them fight back? [Donate $3]( another amount]( The non-stop threats and arbitrary criminal prosecution of Indigenous communities in Russia has only gotten worse since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, when authorities quickly passed new laws that criminalize ANY dissent with up to 15 years in prison. While some activists have fled the country, others have stayed to try to continue to protect their land. It comes at a great cost. Here’s just one example. Mining giant Nornickel – the Arctic’s largest polluter and the biggest nickel supplier in the world – is causing widespread environmental damage on Indigenous lands, from huge oil spills to broken pipes turning rivers bright red. After the local community met with one of Nornickel’s transnational buyers to blow the whistle on what was happening, a brutal raid happened as retribution. They’re not giving up, but they and other brave activists across the country are cut off from other communities also fighting back, facing down huge threats all alone with no support. We can change that right now. These heroes desperately need security training and a chance to come together to strategize and plan. We can make it happen – will you chip in to help these brave activists?
