The rally, hosted at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, was ostensibly meant as a display of solidarity for Palestinians but failed to acknowledge the 1,200 Israelis who were killed, the 3,000 wounded, and over 100 abducted as hostages by the Hamas terror organization. The entire event can be viewed here. Instead, attendees chanted slogans such as "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," implying the complete destruction of the State of Israel, stretching from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. Additionally, chants of "With our souls, with our blood, we'll defend you, O Aqsa" were raised, which is a radical Islamic chant that calls for violence and perpetuates the false claim that Israel threatens the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Several speakers took the stage, including state and county officials, Palestinian and Muslim activists, and a representative from Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network. (While Sharpton condemned Hamas's terror attack this week, his organization seemingly still condones it.) One speaker asserted that Hamas "is not a terrorist organization," despite their mass murders, rapes, killings of children, women, and the elderly, often in front of their families, and abduction of hostages to an unknown fate in the Gaza Strip. Another speaker made the unusual claim that white supremacists carry Israeli flags at their rallies, overlooking the fact that white supremacists are also antisemitic and opposed to Israel. This statement also ignored the fact that many Israelis are "people of color." A speaker who merely mentioned the possibility of "peace in the Middle East" and stated that "all of God's children deserve to live in dignity," without discussing Hamas terrorism, faced harsh heckling and audience members' chants. A single Jewish organization was represented. David Finkel, from the Detroit branch of "Jewish Voice for Peace," a radical left-wing organization known for its support of terrorists, spoke against negotiations toward peace and normalization between Israel and Arab states in the Middle East. He failed to address the mass murders and other atrocities committed by Hamas. Several speakers criticized President Joe Biden, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and other elected officials for expressing solidarity with Israeli victims of terror. They alleged that Arab American voters had been deceived into supporting Democrats in recent elections. Elected officials who addressed the rally included State Representative Alabas Farhat (D-Dearborn) and Deputy Wayne County Executive Assad Turfe, who claimed that supporters of the Palestinian cause in the war were "on the right side of history."
