There’s more to life than minor mundane moments… The world talks a lot about progress, for many good reasons. Life has become significantly better for the majority of the planet. We exist at the bleeding edge of the peak of recorded human history. But that is not to say that some things have not been lost. To affirm otherwise is foolish. One of the gravest casualties of the march of progress has been the loss of the rite of passage. The rite of passage served as a defining moment in the lives of men and women throughout history. Successful completion of the rite of passage granted you entrance into adulthood. It was a threshold experience that facilitated the identity transition from child to adult. This occurred in two key ways: an internal individual transformational experience, and a subsequent external collective recognition. The rite of passage was a gauntlet of such magnitude that the individual needed to evolve to get through it, and the community reflected that back to them when they returned. They were celebrated, and would then be granted the roles, authority, respect, and responsibility of other adults in the group. It was a comprehensive evolutionary experience for the community and the individual. Sometimes these rites were physical – like stone-lifting found throughout Scotland, Pakistan, and numerous other countries. You weren’t a man until you could lift the stone. Or survival rites, where the child is thrust outside the safe boundaries of the village, to survive on their own for some time. They either come back, or they don’t. You might remember the wolf scene if you’ve ever seen the movie 300. Other rites are psycho-spiritual, like the sun dance of the Lakota, or shamanic initiations from ancient lineages.
There are very few experiences—if any—in modern culture that serve this role. The age of voting, of consuming alcohol, and of driving are quasi-replacements that do not offer the profundity of the rite of passage. The Bat Mitzvah is close, but it too has eroded in significance and sacredness over time. The loss of the rite of passage is significant. Men and women have lost the demarcation into adulthood. We have individuals in their late 20’s, 30’s, and even 40’s still feeling and acting like children. How can we blame them? Did anyone—themselves included—ever witness a transition into full mature adulthood? Maturity and full adulthood is not simply a matter of age. The loss of the rite of passage is a domino with rippling consequences. Without mature adults, no one undertakes the pursuit of wisdom, and thus we lose our elders. Do you have any elders around you that you consider wise? Elders are the teachers of the next generations. This creates a vicious cycle of ignorance, apathy, immaturity, and a loss of traditional knowledge and capability. It is a slippery slope from there. The revival of the rite of passage is a core aim of what we do here at [Apotheosis](. For some people, Apotheosis serves the role of facilitating the transition into mature adulthood. For others, it is a transitionary experience into a new chapter, like stepping into greater leadership and responsibility at home, becoming a parent, or demarcating a career/life-stage transition. Whatever the reason, we have designed Apotheosis in this way. There is far more to life than a simple day of work repeated for 5 decades until you pass away. There are pivotal moments in life when everything changes, and a new chapter of your life opens before you. Where realms of opportunity, responsibility, and identity never before imagined possible reveal themselves to you. This is Apotheosis. This is the recognition of the divine in your life, and undertaking the responsibility to act following what it asks of you. Whether we look back to the Kykeon of the Eleusinian Mysteries of Ancient Greece, to the ayahuasca religiosity of the Amazonian entheogenic cultures, or deep into the arctic tundras of ancient Siberian shamanism – the presence of a psychedelic-facilitated initiatory experience has existed for millennia. A way to provide healing, maturity, wisdom, inspiration, revelation, and stewarded passage into greater realms of divinity and ecstatic union with existence. This is a modern rite of passage for those who seek full aliveness, deep wisdom, and sacred responsibility in their lives. For those who know that they are destined for more, and are ready to be initiated into greater realms of responsibility and possibility. I call upon you now… I know you are there. I know you are reading, considering, wondering, dreaming, and hoping for the day that everything changes. That time is now. There is never a perfect time to make a decision that changes everything. To find the courage to move towards something greater in life. There is only the soul force that you have inside of you here and now, and to make the bold decision to give yourself the grace to pursue greatness. Our next modern rite of passage, Apotheosis: REBIRTH, is happening November 3-9. [I'M READY]( It’s time to experience the difference that makes all the difference. I’ll see you there.
