Buyer snaps up uninhabitable land

[Homed] Hi {NAME}, The sea has already reclaimed [much of this beach property]( in Haumoana, Hawke’s Bay - the house is gone along with half of the original section - but that didn’t stop an Auckland buyer from snapping it up at $1 reserve auction. The phone bidder paid $100,000 for the property, the same amount it was sold for in 2021. The former owner told Stuff he had harboured aspirations of one day [starting a seaside restaurant,]( but after years of dreaming he came to the sad realisation that the plan wouldn't pass the “sanity test”. Even the agent accepted that buying here was “defying the future”: The property is in a Coastal Hazard Zone, making it almost impossible to build a permanent structure on the site. This seems likely to [become a reality for more and more]( beachfront sites as climate change kicks in. Still, it’s possible to build a deck and fish from it.
