[Homed header] Hi {NAME}, I’m so stoked that Kāinga Ora was able to find a buyer for the [two little railway cottages]( sitting on sections earmarked for development in Lower Hutt. Not only does it mean plans to build more social housing can now go ahead, but we get to retain a little of our precious, and most quaint, architectural history. Somewhere in New Zealand, someone will turn those little cottages into lovely new homes, they will enjoy for years to come. Meanwhile, in the space they left behind, nine families will get [safe, modern, warm dry homes](. Sounds like a win-win to me! I’m always in awe of [folks who buy relocated homes]( for their sections. It seems like such a massive job to drive a whole house from one part of the motu to another, but when it comes to housing, the heart wants what the heart wants. A quick snoop around a couple of house-for-removal sites, and you’ll see you can get a character home in pretty good nick for about $120,000. That’s so cheap, they could even be [an option for a very handy first time buyer](. Of course the real cost comes in the transportation, and putting services in, not to mention putting the house back together if it had to be cut in half as the cottages did. I’m sure when the buyers step into their completed slices of Kiwi housing history, however, it will all be worth it. Have a great weekend!
